Route of the Hiawatha
The world-famous Route of the Hiawatha Rails to Trails cycle ride and/or walk takes adventurers down the 16 mile Old Milwaukee Railgrade from the east portal just off I-90 to Pearson, Idaho, going through a 1.6-mile long tunnel (and nine others, as well) and over seven sky-high trestles. Re-emerging into the bright Idaho sunlight from the dark of the St. Paul Pass tunnel, one is thrown into the vastness of the glorious North Idaho backcountry replete with waterfalls, mountainscapes, wildlife and fresh air.
