Priest Lake Museum
The Priest Lake Museum is housed in the Luby Bay cabin – constructed in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corp to house Forest Service personnel. The museum began a partnership between the U.S. Forest Service and The Priest Lake Museum Association. In the Museum are vignettes of yesteryear, historic exhibits, and videos of Priest Lake history that include interviews with local pioneers’ first-hand accounting of events.
At the Priest Lake Museum the visitor can learn about the unique history of the Priest Lake region through viewing photos, artifacts from the past and even a video or two. Come in the front door of our little log cabin built by the CCC for the Forest Service in 1935 and be welcomed by our faithful volunteers. While at the museum you can learn about early life at Priest Lake, the natural environment of the region, and how those two interacted throughout the history of the Lake area to create the valuable past that we love to learn and teach.
Take a tour of the museum grounds as well, you may see some machinery you never knew existed or maybe learn the name of a plant you have in your front yard. A gift shop dedicated to Priest Lake and its prehistory, history, culture and natural surroundings features a wide variety of books, DVDs, maps, images, and assorted gifts. All proceeds benefit the Priest Lake Museum.
The museum is open from Memorial Day weekend through the end of September, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays from mid-June through Labor Day, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends in early June, and in September after Labor Day. The museum is closed Mondays, except holidays.
