Coeur d'Alene East
Thar's silver in them hills … along with rich history, an amazing mountain resort, and the lively towns of Wallace and Kellogg for travelers who venture out on the Coeur d'Alene East tour.
Beginning this tour from Coeur d'Alene, drive east on Interstate 90. You'll enjoy sweeping vistas as you drive above Coeur d'Alene Laked's north shore -- which might inspire a stop after only about 10 miles at Mineral Ridge National Recreational Trail, whose gentle 3.3-mile loop provides wonderful lake scenery,
About 25 miles east of Coeur d'Alene is Old Mission State Park and the oldest building in Idaho, the Sacred Heart Mission church built in the 1850s. Displays tell the dynamics and complexities between Jesuit missionaries and the tribal people among whom they settled.
At 38 miles from Coeur d'Alene is Kellogg, with one of the region's top attractions, the 3.1-mile gondola ride to Silver Mountain Resort with mountain biking, hikes, disc golf and the Silver Rapids Water Park.
Another 10 miles east is Wallace, the picturesque mining town whose entire downtown is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Take a mine tour, visit the museums and historic building and enjoy activities including zip lining or a visit to a craft brewery. Wallace is also the jumping-off point to the Route of the Hiawatha bike trail, a fantastic 16-mile route along a former rail line that includes numerous high trestles and tunnels.
