Harrison, Idaho

Nestled at the mouth of the Coeur d’Alene River, on the southeast end of Lake Coeur d’Alene, lies the picturesque town of Harrison. Once a landing for steamers, the community remains a port, but now many pleasure boats tie up at the marina and cruise the clear waters.

Harrison’s colorful history mirrors that of North Idaho itself. The gold stampede came through in the 1880s, and the Village of Harrison was incorporated in 1899; it grew to be the largest city in Kootenai County in its heyday. Successive waves of settlement came with the timber boom, steamboats, railroads up to the present day as a tourism magnet. The 72-mile-long Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes provides a beautiful paved hiking/biking experience along the edge of the lake and river bank, right into the heart of this gem of a town.
